The Office as Atelier

The Office as Atelier

The word atelier used to mean something specific: a studio in which considered work was made. A workshop. A place where the surroundings answered to the work, not the other way around.

Most offices are not ateliers. They could be.

The detail of the room

A space communicates a posture. The chair, the light, the cup at the desk — each one is either elevating the work or quietly diminishing it.

The cup, especially. It is held more times in a day than almost any other object. A paper sleeve and a beige machine signal one thing. A matte black mug and a considered roast signal another.

A small upgrade with a long memory

Coffee is not the most important thing in the building. It is, however, the most repeated.

Maison Avalon Office Reserve was built for the suites and studios that have decided their daily details are not a small thing. Bag, K-Cup, monthly cadence. The same composed roast that lives in a private kitchen, made available to a working room.

A studio, after all, is not a square footage. It is a standard.
